Her Rubiness Takes the Ice!!

Lacing Up!!

Getting The Feel For It with Teacher Kath!

First Steps on The Ice!

Very Focused!

Letting Go of Kath!

Learning how to get up when you fall!

Walking onto the ice after a very short break by herself!!!!
Many Many Many years ago I was a competitive figure skater. I also spent a year traveling professionally with an ice show and taught back in my college days. One month ago the club I skated with had a 50 year reunion where they invited the alumnae back. We had a great turn out and we skated in their annual ice show. Jeff brought the girls to the show to see their Mom on skates!. Ruby sat on Jeff's lap engaged the entire night. She loved it! The first thing she said to me when she saw me was, "I want to skate Mama!" So, last Friday she finally got her chance! Two of my skating pals met us. My friend Kath is a very respected teaching pro in the area, and she gave Ruby her first private lesson! It was so sweet! I do not think the smile left her face while she was out there. She really did great for her first attempt. Her skates were to big (my fault) so in all fairness she did fabulous her first time. If they had fit perfectly she may have taken off! She did attempt her first jump and a spiral while Kath was videotaping her! And when I took over she wanted to go "faster!" Seriously, this child was born to be an athlete. Even Ainsley told Ruby she would be there in the audience when she is in the Olympics some day! What a supportive sister!!
I will be getting some new skates for Her Rubiness and we will be back on the ice soon. I have a feeling I may be at the rink a lot in the future!
Thanks Kath & Aunt Lisa! Such a fun morning for this Mom!
Blessings,

Our Fun Blind (PLAY) Date!

Ruby & Lucy.... Seriously Adorable!!

I just love this one! Walking to check out the fish...

Beautiful Lucy!

New Buddies!

They Were So Sweet Together!

(Don't worry Grandpa... We were close behind them!)
I have said before how blessed I have been by this adoption journey. I have written often about the amazing woman and mother's I have met through it. Some in person, some only through their blogs and emails. Well today, the blessings continued! We had a wonderful play date with our new friends, Bridget and Lucy. Kim was our red thread, and I am thankful for the introduction!
It was the perfect day for our "first" date! We took the girls to a park and restaurant at one of the lakes in the city! As you can see these two Jiangxi Girls connected immediately! They are only five weeks apart, and they came home one month after us in 2007! It was like they had known each other since birth! So fun to witness this little friendship blossom!
And, of course I loved Bridget. She is a smart, funny, loving, and wonderful Mom! We found out we have a lot in common too! We even have the same camera!! Another special Red Thread Connection!!
Thank you Bridget & Lucy for blessing us today! We look forward to our second "date!"

Ruby Notes....

Since this is truly a "scrap book/journal" for me I need to remember some of the funny things that happen around here.... Two days ago I was doing something in my office and Ruby was eating yogurt covered raisins in the room next to me.. All of a sudden she started to cry. One of those scared/hurt cries. I ran in to check on her, and she had stuffed one raisin up each nostril and they were stuck! Thankfully, the nurse (me) in the house was able to extract both without to much difficulty. Jeff appreciated my short call to the office asking where he put the tweezers!!!! I had one scared little Ruby who most likely will never shove anything up her nose again!!!!Yesterday I took her to the Gap to see if they had any white dresses. They were having a sale so I grabbed a few things, including a green dress (my new favorite color) and a white sun hat... She wanted to go into the dressing room to try them on.... I don't recall Ruby ever trying anything on at the store before... She loved the green dress so much, that she refused to take it off. It is pictured above, as she had the salesperson cut off the tags and ring her up! She proudly walked out of The Gap in it!
Next we moved on to the skin care counter at Macy's where she held court with one of the Clinique employees while I talked to another one about the dark circles under my eyes! She had a lengthy conversation with this girl. Not sure about all of it, but she loved her audience! From there we moved on to get a smoothie. While Ruby was waiting for hers she was sitting at a table. She loudly proclaimed for all to here, "FUN DAY MOM!!!!" I am very thankful for my little buddy named Ruby Mei today. She just makes me smile!
Blessings,

Up North - Season 4 Has Begun!

We have officially kicked off summer. The lake is melted, the dock and boats are in, and the kids even got a little wet this past weekend. One more week of school, and then the summer schedule begins! What I think summer will look like for me: Less blogging, lots of photography, and just making it a special time with the Pearl & The Ruby! Birthdays for Ainsley, Jeff & Ruby, and a big anniversary for us! Also, a few camps and a family trip... Looking forward to it all!
I hope you all have a great week!
Blessings,

Sharon & Hudson
When I was waiting for Ruby Mei's referral a wonderful Mom contacted me that was also with AWAA. She was living in the south, but was raised in the midwest. It turned out she lived very close to my brother, and grew up not to far from where we are now. So we kept in touch through our adoption journeys. One year ago I celebrated with her as she brought home her precious son Hudson. I knew if we ever met, we would be friends. So, once again the adoption journey to Ruby blesses me. Today, Sharon & Hudson came for a visit. It was such a joy to finally meet her, and of course to see Ruby & Hudson together. As you can see below, they hit it off. It was very sweet to see Ruby help him down to her play set. She kept calling him, "that boy!" Of course when we went to pick up Ainsley, Ruby had all sorts of things to say about her new buddy, "Hudson!" Thank you Sharon for taking the time before you head back home to visit. I enjoyed every minute! And, thank you Lord for all of these amazing women I have met, and continue to meet because of being called to the miracle of adoption!

Four Little Words!

I think most Mom's who adopt when they already have other children at home pray that their siblings will grow up to truly love each other. I know I have prayed that The Pearl & The Ruby will always have a special and loving sister relationship. Over time I have seen their friendship and sister bond grow. But, today it was verbalized by sweet Ruby. We were in the parking lot at Ainsley's school this morning, and Ruby said, "I WUV YOU SISSY!" Four little words that lit up her big sister's face. Four little words, that earned this reply, "I love you too Ruby!" Just like that... Answered prayer! It's not that I have ever questioned it, but so sweet to really hear it un-prompted for the first time.On a separate note, referrals are finally coming in. These families have waited 38 long months (we waited 17) to see their babies face. There are two families I know here in MSP that will finally see the child God has chosen for them. Congratulations!!
Lastly, I just had a wonderful visit with an adoptive Mom friend Sharon, and her precious son Hudson. It was so great to meet them in person!!! I will post pics of Ruby and Hudson tomorrow!
Now, I have to go look at new baby pictures!

Delayed in MSP!!!

Well..... I am sitting in the gate area of our second departure attempt catching up on photos and blogging! Why you ask? Because the first plane we were going to take had a mechanical.... So, they moved us to a new gate and a new plane.... First class got on.... First class got off... The pilot (who looks like he is 12 :) ) came out and literally said... "Our plane is broken." Seriously? I had to laugh at that one... I traveled in sales pretty extensively for 15 years, and I have never heard it explained that way!!! Anyway, I have the luxury of finding the humor in all of this since I am flying solo!!! Yes, sweet Jeff is in charge of the beauties, and I have no responsibility for 72 hours. Sorry to sound so excited about it, but I am looking forward to time with Kim, and a little selfish, "Me" time! Seriously, I am so thankful for this chance to get-away and re-charge the Mommy batteries before school gets out! Plus, I know the girls will be PERFECT for their Daddy. He is so incredibly capable, he could easily have my job!
I took these photos of Her Rubiness today. She is wearing a shirt I bought for Ainsley long ago in New York. She picked out the skirt to go with it!!! I love her fashion sense already!!!!
OK - the latest is we are waiting for a part, and we "may" be departing at 9:45...
Signing off from Gate D4!!
