Emme Jade!

When we first started this journey to Emme Jade, we prayed that God would give us confirmation that this was His plan for our family. Sometimes it's hard to discern between what our heart wants and God's will for us. Could we love another was never a question. We already know that we can do that. But the things that we describe "of this world" kept popping up. Things that we all think about such as raising 4 girls in this crazy world, expense, time, our age, college, weddings, etc. would creep in and get in the way. Then one Sunday we heard a sermon on making decisions that have eternal value. Clearly God doesn't care about the price of college.. We believe He will provide what we can't in that way. Wouldn't He rather have us focus on teaching out kids about the things that really matter. Matters of the heart, that challenge our children to make great decisions in life. Lessons that teach them about love, respect and serving others. Ultimately, teaching them that the Father who created them, loves them more than we ever could. These are the things that motivate us to go back...

Emme1b-BWBLushBlog

Without writing a novel today, I will say that God quickly showed us that He did call us back to China one more time. This time for a precious little girl named Yang YuQuio. He used my blog to introduce me to a very special woman named Sue with a daughter from Yangzhou. Sue, without me asking reached out to the orphanage for me and got us the first amazing set of photos we got of Emme. Photos that were truly like a road map pointing to Jiangsu, China. In the way they came, and on the day they came, it was such a blatant answer to prayer that this was His plan for us. We will always be grateful to Sue for her boldness that day!

Emme-LunchBlog

Next came a connection to Emme's orphanage through two Yahoo groups. One that the SWI actually reads and responds too. This led to not only an email to me from the nannies, but it connected me to two more special Mom's that would be traveling to Yangzhou soon.

Emme-Closeup2Blog

The first Yangzhou Mom, Patti, was with her girls visiting Yangzhou for a very special reunion a few days ago. Patti is American, but she lives in China.. I reached out asking if she could check on our daughter. Not only did she do that, she blessed us with an email while she was with Emme! She talked to the nannies and the doctor on staff, and she took amazing photos of our girl! In her words she said, "She is just a perfect little girl. I talked as much as I could to the nanny and she said she is happy, cute and her health is good!..She went on to say, I talked to Emme and gave her a kiss for you." A priceless email from a mom who knows what it is like to wait.

WithNannyOutsideBlog

In April, a special family is traveling with their Yangzhou daughter for a heritage trip. They will spend part of their day on April 13th at the orphanage. In her suitcase she is carrying a gift from us for Emme Jade. Another blessing in this wait.

Concert-1Blog

I have stated this before, but Jeff and I believe that when God reveals His plan, and we respond, that He blesses... We could have never prayed for the way God has responded to our need for confirmation. He has taken any fears we may have had and turned them into a love for a little girl that has a smile that lights up our computer screens.. A world away is a precious child, who we know will complete this family in a very special way! The confidence in knowing she is being loved gives us the confidence to wait a little longer to bring her home!

On April 1st our last document will be sent to China. The prayer is for a "Letter of Approval" from China to arrive within thirty days.. If it does, our hope of being in China before school begins is very possible! Blessings from this thankful Mom today!

Spring Fever!

Last night "The Pearl" told me she can't handle this winter one more day... Last week we had a glimpse of Spring... Two days ago we had another glimpse of winter. I am with Ainsley, it's time for winter to be over... We head to Nashville for a few days next week. Praying for sunshine, 80's and lots of Magnolia blossoms!

Well this morning, Sienna and Ruby asked WHEN they can go swimming... I guess they are over it too. The next thing I knew they were in their swimsuits.. They got two stools, and created their own dive team platforms!! They do not lack in imagination!

Maybe it was 10:40am when they asked for ice cream and I said yes!

Pictures Can Tell a Story...

Sisters-5SweetLullabyBlog2

A little over one year ago these two little girls met in an airport.... They worked hard to find their way as friends and sisters... They taught their Mama about patience, problem solving, strong will, forgiveness, love and so much more... Now twelve months later they have a very special relationship... Sisters and best friends (most days)! What took a long time to evolve is now a beautiful story... Perfect? No.... Precious? Yes... Priceless? Definitely...

Emme Jade in Video!

Perhaps it is because I am really starting to miss my sweet little girl, that I felt like sharing this treasure with you all today... This was the video sent to us by Oscar's Daddy.. It is their last day together in Yangzhou and Oscar is leading the walk.... We have watched it over and over.. We have laughed and smiled at the joy our girl exudes.. We have studied her surroundings, her silly face, her contagious smile, and her sweet voice... At the end, we crack up every time when we here her nanny say her name. Clearly she is telling our little cutie to get back in line.... We pray that our USCIS Officer approves us tomorrow, so we can be closer to finally holding this precious child!

Enjoy your first glimpse of Emme Jade live!!!!

A little Update..

Ru-1Blog

We found out late yesterday, that our USCIS file is now in the hands of an Officer! This is exactly where we want to be... Praying that he is efficient, kind and fast!!! And, that today he approves us to bring Emme home! I am up against a deadline that I really want to make next Friday! This document is the only thing keeping us from moving forward with our next milestone in China!!!! Once it is received by the CCAA it will allow them to issue us the next approval which will trigger travel approvals to bring our sweet girl home. Right now, travel is looking like August or September.. But, I am still hanging on that we will have Emme Jade by her third birthday, which is July 24th!!!!

In the meantime, we have A LOT going on over here!!! Let's just say the snow is melting and Spring cleaning (ok purging) has begun!!!!!!

Have a great weekend!!!! There just may be an Emme Jade Fix soon!!! Someone I have met from the Yangzhou Yahoo group is going to be with our little girl next week!!!!! They have a family re-union which they do there every year! We were blessed with this note recently from the orphanage, "Don't worry about YuQiao.. She is well and happy everyday!!!" What more can a waiting Mom and Dad ask for?!!!!!! We are so thankful that Emme Jade is in a wonderful orphanage where she is being loved!! Happy Spring Cleaning!

Blessings,

A Special Couple!

MandK-Kids

Katie has been our babysitter since she was in Jr. High. She is now all grown up and getting married in the fall! We have always adored Katie and her sister Caroline. We have been blessed to watch them both grow up into amazing young women.. And, our kids have been blessed to have these girls babysit them along the way.

When Jeff and I escaped to AZ a few weeks ago, Katie stayed with the girls. They had such a great time... Sledding was the highlight of their wintery weekend... And, two visits from Mike definitely made their weekend even more special! It did not take Sienna long to convince Mike to carry her up the hill!! Mike is the perfect big brother for the trio!!!!

A few weeks ago I got a very special phone call.. Katie asked me if Sienna and Ruby could be flower girls in their wedding!!!!! Then she asked them personally.. They are sooooo excited! Ainsley is excited to. She has been a flower girl twice, so she has lots of advice for her little sisters. We can't wait!

KatieMike-114FieldBlog

Thank you Katie and Mike for loving our girls! We can't wait to be part of your special October day! And thanks for keeping things under control so Jeff and I could get away for a few days! Can we do it again soon? :)

{Black & White Wednesday} Forever Our Baby...

Ruby-1BWBlushBLog

The other day I was driving Ainsley to school and the "littles" were with me. Ruby said, "Mom Ainsley told me that when Emme comes, I am not going to be the baby anymore..." Gathering my words I said, "But Ruby don't you remember we talked about this. Yes, it's true Emme will be the baby because she will be three when she comes home, and you will be 5. But, in my heart you will always be my baby." I looked in the rearview mirror and I saw her eyes looking down, and her bottom lip quivering.. It just broke my heart... Thankfully, I found the words to keep her from weeping while I was driving.. I talked about how it is finally Ruby's turn to be a big sister, and how amazing she is going to be at it!"

The truth of it is I can't wait for Ruby to be a big sister. She is so charming and loving. Our natural born leader will have no trouble stepping up to this very big job of big sister! I just know that Emme is going to think she hung the moon. I have no doubt Ruby will take this role very seriously! The first time I saw Emme's picture she reminded me of Ruby. They both seem to have that joyful spirit that one is born with. Not to take away from Sienna and Ainsley.. They will both have a very special role with their new baby sister too. But, they are "experts" at this big sister thing already! Emme Jade is going to have three very special big sisters fighting over her!

I closed this conversation with my sweet Ruby by saying.... "Ruby, Emme is going to be so blessed to have you as her sister... You are going to be amazing..." The sweetest part was Sienna and Ainsley agreed with me!!!

She responded, "I am going to help her Mom.." I have absolutely no doubt about that. I am counting on it!!

A Little Emme Jade Fix!

Mosaic Emme

I will be honest.. I can't wait to meet Emme Jade in person!!! I got an email from Oscar's Dad, and he described her by saying, "your sweet daughter has happy eyes and she smiled a lot when we visited!" They were kind enough to send us a video this weekend where we were able to see her precious smile and hear her adorable voice. It is a joy to watch her toddling around with her friends. I think I have watched it 100 times! Thank you Carsten!! I also connected with a family that is visiting Yangzhou on April 13th. They are going to hand deliver a package from us to Emme. I have asked this sweet Mom to love her up for us. I can't wait to hear their recap!

We do know that we have been blessed beyond what we could ever ask for in all of these pictures of our daughter. And, I know that there are many of you here that check in on us that long for updates and photos of your children too. I don't take this connection for granted. I am grateful.

Jeff and I are being fingerprinted on March 15th. Based on what we are seeing, I expect to have immigration approval by the end of the month. Our dossier has already been logged-in because of our recent adoption of Sienna. We are one of the pioneer families that has been granted permission to re-use our existing paperwork. After immigration approval happens we will be in line for our official referral, LOA. We have no idea how long that will take. It could be 10 days, it could be 90.. We can expect to travel 3-4 months after that.

We are excited for the call that says, "TA and CA" which equates to buy your plane tickets and book your hotels!!!!

Thank you for your prayers for our precious girl!

Four Years Ago We Met The Most Precious Little Girl!

Four years ago we received our referral for Meng Ru. Four years ago we met a little girl that would change our hearts forever. God would use her, and our experience with her, to lead us and others on a path that would define our family in ways that we could never have imagined. We learned about her on a speaker phone.. We saw her face the first time on our computer screens.. We fell in love at Ni Hao.

-7RubyMeyReferral4yrsblog

Today as I took Ruby's annual picture it brought back every single detail of that amazing day!... This time Ruby had someone by her side waiting to jump in the picture with her.. Her sister, her pal, her sidekick... God knew four years ago that they would be together... I'm sure glad He didn't tell us that day... Sometimes the beauty in the journey are the surprises along the way!

-13MussetteSweetBlog

Because of Ruby, I am reminded that there are so many blessings in the wait.. I am thankful for this precious child! Her inner joy is beyond measure! She is smart, funny, adorable and so easy to love! We give thanks for this very special day four years ago! We love you Ruby!!

The Pearl!

AKR-89PoshBlog

It's time for "The Pearl" to get a little blog time! Some of you have asked if she will be traveling to China with us to bring home Emme Jade. The answer is, hopefully. She definitely wants to go again. One of the things Jeff and I are planning to do on this next trip is to visit Emme's orphanage in Yangzhou. Ainsley really wants to experience this. I would love for her to have the opportunity to truly understand where her little sister is from. Life changing perhaps.

Ainsley has been busy being a fourth grader. School is definitely more challenging this year. We are thankful that Aunt Bop is with us for a few days. Ainsley has her own personal college professor helping her with math and a few other things!

The end of the basketball season is upon us. One more practice and a tournament on Saturday! It has been such a fun season. The girls have done so well. And, they have improved immensely. I have had so much fun watching (OK cheering loudly) at all of the their games!

Next week is a very exciting field trip for the 4th graders. They will be spending almost 24 hours at the zoo.. A sleepover with the sharks and dolphins is ahead next Thursday. And guess which Mom got picked for chaperoning!!! She is soooo excited!!

We are starting to look at camps and other fun things for summer already. It seems far off when snow is still on the ground. I am hoping we find an overnight camp that is a great fit for her this year. As I have said before, I do see "camp counselor" in The Pearl's future.

For tonight, Ainsley has the flu... Bless her heart.. She has been a trooper. I am so thankful that I was home... Praying for a peaceful night, and a rested and healthy girl tomorrow!

My Answer to Why? One Year Later!...

BeforeAfter-SiennaGrace

First Glance at the Civil Affairs and Sienna Grace Now...
March 1, 2010
Changsha, Hunan China

One year ago I wrote in our travel journal on Sienna Grace Day the following words, "Our new daughter arrived into our family on an elevator. She walked off with a grace and quiet confidence about her, munching on an apple! She was dressed in almost all of care package #1 that we sent, and her ruby red slippers. Four layers on the bottom, three layers on the top plus coat. First impression, breathtakingly beautiful!"

Sienna-5Envy53%HazeBlog

While that trip was not storybook, it was laced with blessings. We were given a very special little girl that day in Hunan. One who would show to us again and again the gifts that God has given her. She has an inner strength and braveness about her that has impressed us all. She is beautiful and strong.. But no longer does she go it alone. The layers have been peeled back, and Sienna is more vulnerable now. Her tender side is so amazing. What I see now is a little girl who is willing to let go, willing to ask for help, willing to love, willing to surrender it all. Don't be mistaken though... Sienna will always be strong.. She will always be her own person. That spicy characteristic is part of who she is.. A characteristic I admire greatly about her.

Sienna-20Lullaby30%blog

She and I are a constant work in progress. I understand why God gave her to me when He did... Sienna has taught me a lot about myself in the past year. She has taught me that I have patience beyond what I ever thought possible. She has showed me my weaknesses and my strengths. I will humbly admit, some not too flattering. She has reminded me that when you are called, that anything is possible. She has showed me milestone by milestone what love can truly do. This precious child has had me on my knees a lot. Mostly about how to be a better mother to her and to all of my girls. I have been humbled by how far she has come. And when I make mistakes along the way, she has learned to forgive me. We have both had to do that! We have had our share of "I'm sorry's" that have bonded us together forever. Sound familiar? Perhaps this is how God feels everyday with us... I have learned that to forgive and forget is the greatest gift you can give anyone!

Sienna-22LtHazeOnlyBlog

Recently, I heard the song I have playing on my blog, "Why Wouldn't I" by Peter Eide. I couldn't get the chorus to stop playing in my head.. "Why wouldn't I travel so far, to where you are, to call you my own?" The song goes on to say, "When I saw your face, when I heard your cry, when I held you in my arms, I said to myself, why wouldn't I?" Every time I really stop to listen to the words they make me tear up... It summarizes my life with Sienna Grace in the last year.... Honestly, I can't think of one reason, why I would not take the time and the opportunity to love this child that God so clearly chose to be our daughter! Has it been hard? Somedays that answer is yes. God never promised it would be easy. But, He has loved us and encouraged us through the challenges and the blessings!

Sienna-13SweetLullabyBlog

I love you Sienna Grace... Thank you for opening your heart up to us. It has been a blessing to watch the way you have learned to trust and to love in the last year. You have touched so many people with your story, and with your strength. You are so beautifully and wonderfully made, and Daddy and I are so incredibly proud of you!
