Just one more post in 2008!

The Sisters on the last day of 2008!
Her Rubiness has decided that she would end the year with a bang!  She is sporting some very cute new Dora panties!!!!  Yes, huge strides made today by this little toddler.  Clearly when she decides to do something, she does it!   We are hoping that our days of buying size 4 diapers are over!!  Way to go Ruby Mei!

I had to post this photo of Cole!  He is currently in Jiangxi with his new Mommy and Aunt Stefanie!   It is such a blessing to follow their trip thus far!  Congratulations to the new parents, siblings and cousins!!!  Isn't he gorgeous?!

As I close the year, I continue to thank God for this gift of friendships made and families created by the gift of adoption!  I look forward to more new amazing stories of forever families in 2009!  Now wishing you all God's blessings in the New Year!

Cheers!

Happy New Year!

I think this will be my last post for 2008!  What a great year it has been for us.   We have much to be thankful for!  Especially a clean bill of health for Jeff!  We have watched Ruby grow in so many ways!    She has become her own segment of "Super Why".  Her vocabulary has burst onto the scene!   She continues to bring us great joy!  Ainsley has blossomed before us!  So many highlights for the Pearl this past year!  We will remember it as the year she did four commercials with a cow!  We are very proud of who she is growing up to be!

We give thanks for the gifts that God has given each one of us!  And, for all of our many blessings as a family!  Especially our wonderful friends and family!

God Bless you as you move forward into 2009!

Christmas Morning!

Our day began with one big sister waking up at 5:30am to see if Santa had arrived.  Fortunately, Mrs. Santa was already up, the coffee was on, the tree was lit, and Josh Groban was singing in the family room!  It was a precious morning...  after we woke-up Her Rubiness, to join in the Reindeer Games!

Merry Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve 2008

What a difference a year makes...  I was downloading video from last Christmas yesterday, and I can't believe how big the girls have both gotten.   We had a lovely evening at my sisters new beautiful condo downtown.  Thanks Aunt Bop for hosting!  We look forward to making it a tradition at your house!!!!

As you  can see from the photos Her Rubiness is feeling better.  The antibiotics are working!!!!
She loves the hard wood "runway" at Aunt Bops so there was lots of spinning and running around as we got ready for dinner.  Ainsley prayed for us before dinner and I was so touched by her sweet words.  What a blessing to celebrate with our family again this year!

Merry Christmas, and Happy Birthday Jesus!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

"An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord."  ~Luke 2:9-11

Thankful for Antibiotics!

Sweet Ruby was diagnosed with bronchitis today.  A chest x-ray showed that we got her in, and on, antibiotics just in time.  We are praying that she gets a good nights sleep tonight.  Last night was a tough one...

Ainsley is in count down mode to Christmas.  She is soooo excited this year!  I love her enthusiasm!  She keeps telling me, "Mom I know that Christmas is really about Jesus, but I am just so excited about opening presents!"  Well, at least she is honest!

We look forward to celebrating the birth of Christ too with The Pearl & The Ruby and my parents at Aunt Bop's new amazing home!  Just two more days now Ainsley!

Blessings,

An Early Christmas Present for me!

Yesterday I dropped my camera and shattered the lens on it.   I could have replaced the lens, but my very sweet and generous husband, surprised me with an early shopping spree to get a new camera today! I came home with the Nikon D90 and a fabulous new 18-270mm Mac Daddy Lens!!!!  He wanted me to have it early so I could take pictures for Christmas!  Thank you honey for spoiling me!  I can't wait to take your picture!    I sware I didn't drop it on purpose!

Now it's time to get serious and to strive to get out of the green box.  My goal is to join my other Mamarazzi pals soon!

I am soooooo excited and thankful for this awesome gift!  THANK YOU SANTA!!!  You are the best and I LOVE you!!!!

The Pearl & The Ruby from the Christmas festivities in Ainsley's class today!

Thanks for all of the fun comments from yesterday!  I wish I could say she napped.  Unfortunately, not the case!!!  The Alpha Dog will be home this weekend, so she should get all rested up!

Am I Really Just the Litter Mate?

Christmas 2007

When Jeff and I got married we got our first puppy. She was (and is) a Portugese Waterdog.
Caymus had quite the life when she came into our world. I worked in a home office so she slept at my feet, went on three walks a day, and became my shadow. In true PWD fashion she was (and is) full of personality. She needed (and needs) lots of attention. And, if she didn't (and doesn't) get it she finds a way to create it! At 8 years old she still gets in the garbage, steals food off the counter, and is co-dependent with me.... I love her to pieces, but she is my high maintenance 4 legged friend. Here's where the Litter Mate part comes in... She is NEVER naughty for Jeff. She does not bark, she does not create havoc, she is PERFECT!! Show quality really! I remember calling the breeder when she was a puppy, and she said to me, "Diana - Caymus thinks of you as her litter mate!" Did she really mean sucker?

So, why this post? Well - it seems my girls think I am their litter mate too... When I traveled for work when Ainsley was a baby, she was always PERFECT for her Daddy. She would sleep through the night, get ready for pre-school, etc.. Again, Dad the alpha, Mom the wimp....
Well, last night it happened again.. I have had a tough time with Ruby lately (again) at bedtime. She has been refusing to get in her crib for naps, and bedtime. She says "Mama's Bed" or "no bed!" Jeff was in Dallas Monday and Tuesday of this week. Ruby was a pill at bedtime. Tuesday night she fought me so hard, that she never went to bed until 11:00pm... (Long story!)

So, the end of this long post goes like this... Jeff came back last night, and I had a Christmas party at church. By the time I came home, both girls were asleep. Her Rubiness tried to control the situation with her Daddy... Jeff basically told her it was time for bed.. End of story, she went to bed... She was PERFECT! Striving to be a little more "Alpha Dog" today! I need this girl to nap so I can get some gifts wrapped!!!!

Cheers!

Norman Rockwell & Her Rubiness Collide In My Kitchen!

Our little Martha Stewart..
Norman Rockwell moments like this...
and this..
and this....
and this...
this too...  I delagated the flour measuring to Ainsley!
and of course this...
and this one too...

Goodbye Norman Rockwell...  Her Rubiness is now on the counter, and the fun begins....
The Pearl quite serious about her frosting task...
Merry Christmas Daddy!

Like many, one of my favorite Christmas traditions is baking cookies.  Two years ago while we were waiting for Ruby's referral, I packed up my mixer and The Pearl, and we went to the lake and baked.  It is one of my favorite Christmas memories.

Ainsley and I started our baking festivities when Ruby went down for her nap yesterday.  It was all very Norman Rockwell-ish in the kitchen until an hour into it, Her Rubiness awoke!  Of course she wanted to be part of the fun.  We kept her entertained with her own mixing bowl, some batter and frosting for a while!  When she started climbing on the counters we had to change our strategy!  Maybe we let her watch a few episodes of Dora and Super Why to keep her busy!

What a difference a year makes in the baking skills!  Ainsley was so much fun, and she did an amazing job frosting every sugar cookie cut-out we made.  These are Jeff's favorites, so how special that The Pearl made them look so beautiful!  She just may be our little Martha Stewart!

Ainsley and I learned that even a testy "Cookie Press" can be mastered with patience and a few laughs!!  I will always enjoy the memories of our 2008 Cookie afternoon!  Thanks Ainsley for blessing me.  I loved baking with you!

"Jingle Bells" at CHA

The Girls in Mrs. Willett's class!

"Singing Jingle Those Bells for Jesus!"

Erika, Emma, Lauren & Ainsley

"Her Rubiness" trying to get to her Sissy

Her Rubiness got to her Sissy!!! - Finale

The Pearl's Christmas concert was a huge success!  The kids did such a great job!  I loved the story, and the music!  Her Rubiness loved it so much that she kept trying to climb over the chair in front of her.  It would have been cute, if she hadn't been bothering a Mom trying to videotape her son!!!  I gracefully took her out for a while!  We came back for the finale!  As the final applause was happening,  Her Rubiness escaped, and sauntered up to sit with Ainsley's class on the risers!  She gave her big sister a huge hug for a job well done right there for all to see!  Thankfully, the show was over.  It really was a priceless moment!  All of the kids in Ainsley's class adore Ruby, so they thought it was great that she joined in.  Ruby just exited stage right with the rest of the kids!  We found her later with Ainsley and her friends at the post show reception!  It was such a fun night!!

Thursday Ramblings, and help for Hannah!

My friend Denise and her family, are asking for anyone who may have a connection at:

  • The National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD
  • The National Heart, Lung, & Blood Institute or the University of Texas at Houston
If you do, please contact Debbies' sister Rachel at raychke@comcast.net as soon as possible!

Hannah (age 7) needs are help.  Her Acute Anemia is VERY serious!  I know if this was Ainsley or Ruby, I would be desperate for your assistance.  And, forever grateful for your help!

*************************

It seems a bit trivial to talk about my day here when so many are suffering right now.  I am overwhelmed with the opportunities to help others.  I shed tears reading "Half the Sky's" update the other night.  I wish I could personally support the 2000 children that need sponsors.  We are part of Pearl River's program, and I love knowing we are helping just one little girl in China so she can be in Foster Care, with the hope someday that she will be adopted too.  Because of Ruby I am drawn to these orphans in China, but I know there are many opportunities to help right here, in my own backyard.  So, if you are thinking about gifts this year, perhaps you can consider doing something to help another in honor of your friend or family member...

Today is going to be a crazy day for me.  I get to start out at 7:30 with a full physical.  UGH... I will be anxiously awaiting my first latte of the day when they are done with me.  After this fun event, I have to connect with Jeff to take Her Rubiness to gymnastics.  She missed last week because of her nasty cold.  She loves going, so we can't miss the last class!  After that we run to the vet because Caymus decided to literally eat away half of the fur on one of her legs yesterday.
Not sure how I didn't notice.  Perhaps it was the six things I was doing at once to get ready for visitors that I missed it!  I am confident she is ok...  Clearly, something irritated her leg.  I am hoping we do not come home with the big cone around her neck!   Then at 11:30 I am going to take a deep breath and have four of my favorite friends over for lunch to celebrate birthdays and the season.  After that, Her Rubiness and I pick up the Pearl and head to the airport to get Grandma and Grandpa ( or "Gapa and Papa" in Ruby-speak!)  They are flying in from Austin for Chirstmas!  Are you tired yet?  I am!!!

I hope you all have a peaceful day!

This was so fun for me to do!  Jeff and I will be married 10 years this summer.  So, all of the cards we have sent out are here, except for 1999 when we sent out a wedding photo!

So many great memories and blessings as a couple!  We look forward to seeing what God has planned for us in 2009!

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
